Tyler Brailey & #ChangeTheLandscape

Navi Collaborative is a big fan of Tyler Brailey! We met Tyler at our open auditions for Gruesome Playground Injuries (Sep 2016) and are delighted to be able to work with him once again. Tyler is a Story Teller through and through and we admire his commitment to and love for the theatre. Tyler has brought a wonderful energy to Robot Boy and in each rehearsal he finds more ways to make our love-able bad boy just that much more love-able.

In this video Tyler talks about the importance of Story Telling and we 100% agree with him. Despite it's snot and slime The Snot-Gobbler is really a story about love and hope and an emotion that we all face at some point, grief. In the adult world we often forget that children too experience loss and grief. It could be a seemingly small loss, like loosing a much loved Teddy Bear, to something life changing, like watching a parent struggle with cancer; age does not protect them from these experiences. By telling the story of The Snot-Gobbler we hope to create a safe environment and experience for children and families to be able to witness our characters coping (or not coping) with the experience of grief and perhaps open the door for families to be able to have a conversation about this common life experience.

This campaign not only gives us the opportunity to tell our Snot-Gobbler story but will also lay a financial foundation for the other stories we have chosen to tell this year. If you also believe in the importance of telling stories and want to see our stories told then please become one of our awesome donors.

One Boy, No Mum.

One Boy, No Mum.

This week we are introducing you to Robot Boy! Robot Boy is our villain's unwitting side kick who you might be tempted to route for just because he is so darn adorable!

Robot Boy is a creation of Gotten-Gitten Von Schnauzelburger. He was made out of love and hope for GG and his wife Mary, who were unable to have a child of their own. Robot Boy and Mary were very special to one another. You could say that Robot Boy loved Mary, though some might argue that a mechanical creation doesn't know what love is. Robot Boy lives with the memory of how Mary cared for him and took him on all kinds of adventures out in the town and to the park. Going to the park with Mary was his favorite thing in the whole wide world, and he doesn't understand why he hasn't been allowed out since Mary went away. Robot Boy is very loyal to his father and though he doesn't understand GG's intense hatred of smiles, laughter, and children, he dutifully does his part in the lab...until one day....

It's been so "outstanding" to see how Robot Boy has come together. As with all our puppets, hours of work has gone into both the imagineering and the engineering of this mechanical fellow. We are just 20 days out from the end of our campaign and there is still much imagineering to do. Have a lil' sneak peek and the progress of Robot Boy and please consider helping us #FundTheMagic.

Cloths & Costumes & Stuff

Cloths & Costumes & Stuff

We think that Robot Boy is the cutest mechanical sidekick to ever roll across the stage and we believe the kids will think so too!

Robot Boy is our most complete puppet. A hodge podge of parts, the crafting of Robot Boy was all about finding the right gadgets to bring him to life, and Designer Ross Goffin and actor Tyler Brailey have been doing a fantastic job of making our plays unwitting bad boy into a crowd favorite. Here's a few materials that went into making this little tin man:

  • one headlight
  • two light sabers
  • one tin box
  • two shower hoses
  • one meter
  • Four Wheels
  • Two torches
  • other car parts
  • screws & bolts
  • Wires galore
  • Batteries
  • Cans of Spray Paint
  • Foam

As with Gotten-Gitten, Ross has put loads of time into Robot Boy, from initial design concept to completion. By donating to our Boosted campaign, you will not only allow us to cover the materials we have already used, you will also enable us to manage the upkeep up of his parts and paint, and perhaps add a few more bells and whistles (magic) to his design. As Robot Boy mentioned, we are doing double duty on costumes for this show. We not only need to costume GG and Rosie, we also need to costume our four actors. We have come up with a very simple (aka affordable) concept for our actor's costumes, but every little bit costs money and so every donation helps in more ways then you can perhaps imagine. Please consider helping us #FundTheMagic.

ALL IT TAKES IS A LATTE...well a few latte's but still just one latte per person....

ALL IT TAKES IS A LATTE...well a few latte's but still just one latte per person....

This year our Navi Facebook page ticked over 1000 page likes, 1,082 to be exact!

Which means....if each person who has liked our page were to donate the price of an average latte, $5.50, then Navi would not only achieve our funding goal but we would exceed it.

I used to think that if I donated just $5.00 to something it wasn't making much of a difference but last year (through crowd funding) I learned the power of a fiver.

So, that is all we are asking today. Please consider "buying us a latte" and help us #FundTheMagic in 2017

Our Boosted Campaign is launched, and we hope that you will consider helping us #FundTheMagic!

By Donating to our Boosted Campaign you will be aiding us in three very specific goals:

  1. Creating the best production of The Snot-Gobbler that we possibly can without putting our company into debt.
  2. Paying our actors, designers, and technicians a wage, which they deserve as professional practitioners.
  3. Creating a financial foundation for Navi in 2017.

So many of our friends, families, and fans donated to our 2016 Boosted campaign and by doing so they allowed Navi to accomplish so many awesome projects and to be a part of creating professional opportunities in Auckland last year. At the end of 2017 we would love to be able to say the same thing!
