Joshua Baty & #ChangeTheLandscape

Joshua Baty & #ChangeTheLandscape

We are just 7 days out from the end of our Boosted Campaign!

How will you be helping us "Change The Landscape," by donating to The Snot-Gobbler? Your support will allow us to:

  • Present a strong female hero
  • Present a strong and "older" female sidekick
  • Broach the topic of grief and loss in a way that is accessible to children; who will experience these things at some point int their lives and often while they are young.
  • Provide a performance for children with special and specific needs.
  • Sale our tickets at a rate that is "doable" for a wider range of of families.
  • Give a free workshop that will encourage the creativity and imagination of the children who attend.
  • Get closer to our goal of paying artist at a rate that reflects the value of their work.

These are just a few of our goals as Navi, and if these are things that you can get behind, then please consider helping The Snot-Gobbler become a fully funded project.

To Our Family & Friends

To Our Family & Friends

As you probably know by now, Nicci Reuben is the creator of The Snot-Gobbler. We (as Navi) are so proud of her and this magical story that she has imagineered into life along with her partner, Ross Goffin.

We know that we have spent the last month asking our family and friends for money, and please believe us when we say that doing a fundraiser is one of the most intense and humbling experiences you can have; I think we all know that having to ask someone for money, even family, is often awkward at best. But at the end of the day, we need our family and friends to achieve our dreams, and not just monetarily, we need you to see our work, we need to know that we can use our creative side and successfully communicate with it to those the we love and respect. I can't really say any of this better then Nicci has in her video, so I hope that you will give it a watch and that you will consider helping us #FundTheMagic. We only have one week left to reach our funding goal.

The Bravest Big Sister Around

The Bravest Big Sister Around

This week we have been talking about our Hero, Rosie Petal!

Rosie (played by Dawn Glover) is a nine year old girl who has already come face to face with some huge tragedy. Her big brother, and at that point favorite person in the world, Henry was killed in a car accident when she was seven. This of course sent her family reeling, but the Petal's chose to navigate through their grief by remembering Henry with love and by caring for one another even more then they had before. It wasn't too long before Jasper was born and Rosie went from having been a little sister to being a big sister and she is determined to be the best big sister possible! She is also doubly fierce in her protection of Jasper's smile because her mother's smile hasn't been seen much since Jasper was born, and though Rosie isn't quite sure what's happening with her mother she has a feeling it has to do with Henry, whom she notices her parents speak of less and less. When Jasper's smile is swiped by The Snot-Gobbler Rosie knows that she has to go and get it back! However, Rosie is a bit scared of Gotten-Gitten Von Schnauzelburger and his old creepy house. With some encouragement from her newly discovered sidekick, Tarantula, Rosie learns that being brave isn't about not being afraid, but that bravery is an act of facing fear head on.

We are so excited to bring Rosie's story to the stage and thrilled to announce that our community focus for our premiere season of The Snot-Gobbler is The Grief Centre. Since each of our four characters are dealing with some form of loss we felt that our production of The Snot-Gobbler provides us with a great opportunity to give support and appreciation to an organization that helps people navigate grief on a day to day basis. We have committed to giving the Grief Centre 10% of the ticket sales from one of our productions but we would love to do more. If we are able to reach our Boosted funding goals we would be able to offer a bigger donation to The Grief Centre. If you would like to partner with us in supporting The Grief Centre and help us #FundTheMagic please click below.

A Message From Our Birthday Girl

A Message From Our Birthday Girl

It's Morgan's Birthday!!! We love our Morgan! She is our passionate, compassionate, generous, and bubbly Navi Co-founder and she has a lil' Boosted message for all of you.

For The Snot-Gobbler Morgan is keeping herself busy by assisting in marketing, running our car boot sale (Next Sunday the 19th of March) and just being an awesome and patient all around assistant. I want to mention here, that she is (like all of the Navi core team) doing all of this work without any form of renumeration. Our Navi team is driven by passion and by having the opportunity to do projects with the support of several people. Our only "pay" comes in being able to use the money our Boosted Campaign and ticket sales bring in to fund our work.

We hope that you will consider helping us reach our Boosted goals so that we can bring the magic that Morgan is talking about to the stage. We only have 17 days left to reach $5000.00 and all it will take to get us there is each of our friends sending a fiver our way. If you do donate today please write "Happy Birthday Morgan!" in the message/comment box.

Imagination For Free!

Imagination For Free!

We are thrilled to once again be a part of Te Pou's Rangatahi season!

The Rangatahi Festival is for emerging artists and shows that are in development. This will be our development season of The Snot-Gobbler, and we are looking forward to the wealth of knowledge that we will gain from our first run. We are also so appreciative of all that the Te Pou team does to support the artists who enter their space. We are excited to be amongst creatives who are creating unique work and exploring topics that might be overlooked by other venues.

One of our dreams for our season at Te Pou, is to be able to run a free workshop for children who are inspired by the magic of our puppets and set. We would love to able to stoke their imaginations and help them create a Robot Boy or a character of their own. We want to spread the love and possibilities of story telling to kids now because we believe that imagination isn't just for artists, it is an incredible asset for everyone, no matter what they end up doing in life.

In order to run a workshop we will need to be able to provide building and crafting materials. We always do our best to resource our programs with found and recycled materials but there are just some materials like: glue, child friendly paints, and markers, that add to our budget. Please help us spread the love of Story Telling by donating to our Boosted Campaign today.

The Coffee Date

The Coffee Date

We are so grateful to the donors that have supported our campaign thus far. I know we say that a lot, but trust me, we can't say it enough.

I'll keep todays blog short and sweet because the message is simple: If every one of the 1000 + people who have liked the Navi page were to essentially buy us a latte, The Snot-Gobbler would be more then fully funded. At this point we are at 40% of our funding, which is exciting, but (and it's a big but) if we don't reach our full funding goal ($5000) we won't get anything that we have managed to raise.

The past two weeks we have talked about how $5000.00 will allow us to:

  • Pay our actors
  • Build our remaining puppets
  • Reinforce and repair our currently built ones
  • Costume our puppets and actors
  • Lay a financial foundation for our other 2017 projects

It will also allow us to:

  • Hold a free puppet workshop for kids at Te Pou
  • Support a local organization/charity
  • Cover the cost of our marketing materials
  • Cover the rate of our Composer
  • Pay our Technicians
  • Cover the cost of our set
  • Cover the cost of our rehearsal space
  • Support us taking The Snot-Gobbler to another venue

If these are goals that you can get behind, then please send a fiver our way.

Tyler Brailey & #ChangeTheLandscape

Tyler Brailey & #ChangeTheLandscape

Navi Collaborative is a big fan of Tyler Brailey! We met Tyler at our open auditions for Gruesome Playground Injuries (Sep 2016) and are delighted to be able to work with him once again. Tyler is a Story Teller through and through and we admire his commitment to and love for the theatre. Tyler has brought a wonderful energy to Robot Boy and in each rehearsal he finds more ways to make our love-able bad boy just that much more love-able.

In this video Tyler talks about the importance of Story Telling and we 100% agree with him. Despite it's snot and slime The Snot-Gobbler is really a story about love and hope and an emotion that we all face at some point, grief. In the adult world we often forget that children too experience loss and grief. It could be a seemingly small loss, like loosing a much loved Teddy Bear, to something life changing, like watching a parent struggle with cancer; age does not protect them from these experiences. By telling the story of The Snot-Gobbler we hope to create a safe environment and experience for children and families to be able to witness our characters coping (or not coping) with the experience of grief and perhaps open the door for families to be able to have a conversation about this common life experience.

This campaign not only gives us the opportunity to tell our Snot-Gobbler story but will also lay a financial foundation for the other stories we have chosen to tell this year. If you also believe in the importance of telling stories and want to see our stories told then please become one of our awesome donors.

A Baddy, A Robot, A Heroine, A Spider That Loves Fermented Potato Juice, & A SNOT-GOBBLER!

A Baddy, A Robot, A Heroine, A Spider That Loves Fermented Potato Juice, & A SNOT-GOBBLER!

Since Navi was founded we have begun each year with an original project from one of our core members.

We couldn't be more excited to be diving into the world of Children's and Puppet Theatre with The Snot-Gobbler! Nicci (Navi Core and founder of Chocolate Lantern) and Ross (of Chocolate Lantern Theatre Co.) have not only created a fun and slimy plot, they have also come up with a handful of characters that we have fallen in love with and are certain Auckland families will too.

We hope you enjoy this little sneak peek into the characters of The Snot-Gobbler, and that you will consider helping us #FundTheMagic!
