ALL IT TAKES IS A LATTE...well a few latte's but still just one latte per person....

This year our Navi Facebook page ticked over 1000 page likes, 1,082 to be exact!

Which means....if each person who has liked our page were to donate the price of an average latte, $5.50, then Navi would not only achieve our funding goal but we would exceed it.

I used to think that if I donated just $5.00 to something it wasn't making much of a difference but last year (through crowd funding) I learned the power of a fiver.

So, that is all we are asking today. Please consider "buying us a latte" and help us #FundTheMagic in 2017

Ashton Brown & #ChangeTheLandscape

Ashton Brown & #ChangeTheLandscape

We have absolutely LOVED having the opportunity to work with Ashton Brown on The Snot-Gobbler! Not only is Ashton hilarious (you can catch his awesome comedy at The Auckland Comedy Fest in April), but he is also a talented performer with a passion for our industry and the desire to see positive change within it.

One of the reasons that Navi has begun doing an annual fundraiser is because we want to pay our actors some kind of wage for the time and talent that they give to us. There just aren't enough grants to go around in the arts for us to count on that kind of funding and in all honesty Navi hasn't reached the point of recognition (yet) that sees consistently sold out ticket sales. Those who donated to our 2016 Boosted allowed us to pay a  stipend to at least 15 different artists that worked with us last year and the in the beginning of 2017.  We hope to someday (sooner rather then later) say that Navi is a company that pays artists decent living wages; that dream starts becoming a reality with every successful Boosted Campaign.

DIY Puppet Theatre

DIY Puppet Theatre

This week we have introduced you to Gotten-Gitten Von Schnauzelburger. It is fitting that he was the first puppet we introduced you to because he was the first character of The Snot-Gobbler that Nicci and Ross dreamt up.

Gotten-Gitten Von Schnauzelburger used to be a man of the people, the loving husband of Mary, and the happy father of Robot Boy. He and Mary had long wanted a child of their own but they were not able to conceive and so Gotten-Gitten made her Robot Boy. Mary was delighted with her son and soon filled her days with dotting on him and taking him on adventures to the park. However, one day Mary and Robot Boy returned from the park with one broken robot arm and a very poorly Mary. Mary took to her bed and never got back up. From that day forward Gotten-Gitten was filled with a dark grief that drove him to his lab. There he would make potions that could make the rest of the world as rotten as he felt inside and an old dirty rag that could wipe the smiles off of peoples faces.

As we mentioned yesterday, a lot has gone into the process of creating Gotten-Gitten, and today we would like to share with you what his creation has looked like thus far and ask you once again to help us #FundTheMagic

Seeking Seth Rogan

Seeking Seth Rogan

Gotten-Gitten Von Schnauzelburger wasn't always rotten but he is now and he needs you to financially support his plan to "rid the world of smiles!"

We couldn't be more chuffed to have such a great "baddy" to bring to Te Pou in April. Our Gotten-Gitten has a story that is years in the making and a body that has taken since the end of last year to build and well...he ain't a cheap old guy. Materials for Gotten-Gitten have included:

  • Clay
  • Plywood
  • Polystyrene
  • Cord
  • Resine
  • Leather
  • Paints
  • Screws
  • Tailored costume items (to fit his special puppet frame)

On top of materials Gotten-Gitten has required perhaps the most valuable item, time. Designer Ross Goffin has logged intense hours making each of our puppets and he's done this around a full time job. Gotten-Gitten also requires a puppeteer and we are so excited to be working with Ashton Brown who is also spending loads of time and sharing all of his talent.

We would be so blessed if you would consider helping us make sure that both Ross and Ashton receive the renumeration that they deserve for time spent and jobs well done, and that Gotten-Gitten is able to be made with materials that will last us through this run of The Snot-Gobbler and through seasons and festivals to come.

#FundTheMagic

Our Boosted Campaign is launched, and we hope that you will consider helping us #FundTheMagic!

By Donating to our Boosted Campaign you will be aiding us in three very specific goals:

  1. Creating the best production of The Snot-Gobbler that we possibly can without putting our company into debt.
  2. Paying our actors, designers, and technicians a wage, which they deserve as professional practitioners.
  3. Creating a financial foundation for Navi in 2017.

So many of our friends, families, and fans donated to our 2016 Boosted campaign and by doing so they allowed Navi to accomplish so many awesome projects and to be a part of creating professional opportunities in Auckland last year. At the end of 2017 we would love to be able to say the same thing!
